The history of sex violence exists since time immemorial, and
not always deemed as illegality. Women in history are always viewed as a being
subjugated to the man's will and laws. Therefore, it's against them most of
the sexual violence of contemporary and historic registries.
The nature of the violence may vary from insults, physic aggressions
to menaces, but what worries most, nowadays, is the worse kind of aggression:
rape. This kind of aggression causes a great deal of physical harm to the victim,
but, certainly, the biggest one being the psychological as matter of course.
Most cases of sexual violence occur inside the victim's own abode,
regardless of how close the offender and the victim might be. It renders difficult
the intervention of law, since menaces become constant. The feeling of being
attacked, is so, replaced by scare feelings, and nothing happens to the offender
as to be punished as deserved.
Fear is not the only factor that helps the aggressor to get away
with it. Women (most of the victims) may feel rather ashamed of what took place,
and prefer, so, to forget the mishap leaving it up to the police's procedure
to clear the facts. But it is not their fault at all. The pressure of peers,
neighbors and next of kin, poises the victim not to go trough-embarrassing situations
again.
Even though it isn't a significative number, there is, too, sexual
violence of women against men, and it happens, most of the time, at work environment.
Just like women, the feeling of shame and labeling of society poises men not
to seek the law for support.
Today, many support centers spread in the world and ONG'S help
women to tackle such situations, giving them psychological and physical support
, so that can aggressors be identified and judged by the law.
When a victim arrives in a support center, doctors and psychologists
who will run batteries of exams and questions then support her. Date, time and
localization of the occurrence are points of reference to solve cases, as are
gynecological exam and a full blood work up of the essence. If known who the
aggressor is, he/she undergoes thorough medical exams in order to detect any
disease that might've been transmitted to the victim. It's imperative in cases
of sexual violence cases to dash for the nearest support center and not omit
any detail and press charges with no mercy on whoever committed such atrocity.
